Split Key Recovery
Split your recovery key among multiple trusted people using Shamir's Secret Sharing. Require a threshold number of trustees to combine their shares for recovery. No single trustee can access your data alone.
How it works
Choose how many total shares to create (N) and how many are needed to recover (M). For example, create 5 shares requiring 3 to recover. Each trustee receives one share. Recovery requires M trustees to contribute their shares, which are mathematically combined to reconstruct the key. Any M-1 shares reveal nothing about the key. Shares can be distributed digitally or physically.

Why it matters
Single points of failure in key management are dangerous. If one person holds the only recovery key and becomes unavailable, the data is lost. Split key recovery distributes trust so no single person is a bottleneck, while ensuring that a threshold of trusted people can always recover access. This is essential for family archives and organizational knowledge.
